It's definitely not perfect, as I've said, but it's worth watching if you don't look at it as a Final Fantasy movie.Nickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08092564511948736386noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-332312589214574085.post-62513857675149920662012-05-30T13:52:51.298-05:002012-05-30T13:52:51.298-05:00I'm still surprised at myself that I haven'...I'm still surprised at myself that I haven't seen this being that I've played every FF game past FF6 as well (not counting XIV, XIII-2, or any of that Crystal Chronicles nonsense).

And I vividly remember the first time Final Fantasy entered into my life, too. 1998, got FFVII for the PC of all things, and life hasn't been the same since. Thank god for that series, renewed my faith in video games.Aiden R.http://ctcmr.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-332312589214574085.post-77922063788004343912012-04-24T23:27:16.235-05:002012-04-24T23:27:16.235-05:00I'll have to finish reading this later because...I'll have to finish reading this later because it's rather late for me right now, loved the early game talk, then skipped to the actual movie review. I was a big Dragon Warrior fan in the day, I owned NES copies of Dragon Warrior 2 and 4 and played the heck out of them and have been a fan of Final Fantasy since playing the renumbered FF2 on SNES and I still own my copy of the renumbered FF3. I enjoyed the movie at the time but I think the biggest problem was that they started it too soon. They relied heavily on keyframing for the animation - posing out the key frames of the animation and letting the computer fill out the in-between frames instead of methods now used to get much more fluid and natural motion aside from motion capture. This made the animation look very stiff and unnatural and dipped into the uncanny valley.

But I do own the movie on DVD and it's been such a long time I really should give it a revisit.Bubbawheathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18258094863868303774noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-332312589214574085.post-69181111712936284672012-04-16T19:05:29.496-05:002012-04-16T19:05:29.496-05:00The spirit stuff is explained early on in the film...The spirit stuff is explained early on in the film (which I tried to detail in the plot blurb here). They're important because when she gets all 7, it can be used to get rid of the phantoms and purify the Earth or something like that. But no, you wouldn't have understood it any more or less for having played any of the games. Like I said--there is no connection to anything.Nickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08092564511948736386noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-332312589214574085.post-46887138173567686712012-04-16T19:02:43.132-05:002012-04-16T19:02:43.132-05:00Indeed!Indeed!Nickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08092564511948736386noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-332312589214574085.post-70788268187157803212012-04-16T17:25:20.197-05:002012-04-16T17:25:20.197-05:00I've not much background with the FF games. They reached their peak around the time I gave up video games for a while.

I did end up seeing this film at some point and even with my basic idea of what FF was, I found it to be not what I expected at all. I don't care for the film at all. The story and writing don't work for me and I honestly thought it was a bit hokey.

Why are there these spirit things and what's so important about them? Maybe if I had played a FF game I would have understood that going in.

The animation has its moments. I think it's a bit too stilted and uncanny for me at times, but it certainly looks nice.Jameshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00999103091301885129noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-332312589214574085.post-46278716432191966012012-04-16T08:27:02.065-05:002012-04-16T08:27:02.065-05:00Thanks Final Fantasy, for giving us the Nick we kn...Thanks Final Fantasy, for giving us the Nick we know and love!
-JasonJason Sotohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03892643201429905459noreply@blogger.com
