P.E.S.T.

I'm actually posting this on time! Dakato Fanning better ready herself for the fight against... herself. It's Pre-Emptive Strike Thursday!

------------

Title: The Pink Panther 2.

Pre-Thoughts: I didn't even bother seeing the first one (with Steve Martin). Though Steve Martin himself pretty much gave me little hope in the film anyway on The Colbert Report. He said the movie plays on many levels: there's low comedy and high comedy... but not much high comedy. It's mostly low.

Title: Push.

Pre-Thoughts: I've seen some pretty rave reviews thus far, and it looks freakin' awesome. I've been waiting for this one ever since I first saw the trailer months back. But let's just hope it's not another Jumper, which coincidentally came out right around this same time last year. But I'm putting myself up for high hopes this time around. Let's hope I don't come crashing down.

Title: He's Just Not That Into You.

Pre-Thoughts: Great ensemble cast, even if it's a romantic comedy. I do want to see it purely for its cast. I just don't know when I'll get around to actually doing so (probably not until it comes out on DVD).

Title: Fanboys.

Pre-Thoughts: Another movie that's been pushed back for way too long that's finally getting its release. Ironically, there's a huge fan following of this movie that has been waiting in the shadows for its release. Unfortunately, it's getting quite the limited release, which means it ain't coming my way anytime soon.

Title: Coraline.

Pre-Thoughts: Neil Gaiman? Henry Sellick? Stop Motion? 3-D? The next movie to have every wannabe goth girl shopping at Hot Topic? I'm there... eventually. It's number 3 on my list after Push and the next one on the list.

Title: Slumdog Millionaire.

Pre-Thoughts: That's right, it's finally coming here! I'm seeing this tomorrow after ages of waiting. Can't wait.

  1. Where do you live? I figured Slumdog went wide already.

  2. Mikey: I live in the middle of nowhere in South-East Texas. If you follow my blog, you'll recognize that I don't get a lot of the award films, art films, foreign films, or lesser-known films around here, especially on time. And the bigger cities are, at the least, 2 hours away in every direction (literally), and I'm not much of a 'drive on my own 2 hours to the big city to see a movie' kinda guy.

Every now and then we'll get a foreign (read: Spanish) film or an award film, but not often. The only time award films come this way is the January/February time period during which the Oscar Nominations are announced, but before the Oscars air on TV. Then we basically get about one award film a week or so (usually).

Two weeks ago we got Frost/Nixon. Last week we didn't get one. This week it's Slumdog Millionaire. I'm betting next week will be Milk or The Wrestler.

  3. I feel your pain (sometimes). I live in a small town with 1 movie theater that plays 1 movie per week and only on weekends. It's usually a family film (which means the theater is filled with loud kids and teenagers) - most of the stuff I wanna see never comes here. However, luckily for me, there are larger theaters only an hour away. I frequently go and have "movie days" where I see 3-4 movies in one shot. Those are a blast and save me some gas!

"Push" looks interesting - I'm intrigued by adolescent Dakota Fanning - and "Fanboys" seems amusing. Have a good time at "Slumdog" - I don't think it's quite the best of the year, but it's definitely a fun and uplifting movie-going experience. :)

  4. I have been wanting to see Fanboys forever. We have only had one movie theater here forever, but finally got another one - so I am thinking one would have to have it.

    I WAS WRONG!

So, it is not here either. Hopefully it makes its way here sometime, but I am not holding my breath. Guess I will have to wait until DVD.

  5. FANBOYS is finally get a release (albeit limited)? That's surprising, I thought the Weinsteins were gonna hold that bugger for all eternity. And Nick, you're gonna love SLUMDOG. Well, er, hopefully. Cheers.

  6. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on Slumdog. I'd like Push to be good, but I feel disappointment in the air. Maybe it is just lingering Jumper hatred.
