The Demented Podcast #32 - A Little Dense.

This week, we were joined by Jandy Stone of The Frame and Row Three to discuss Neo-Noir flicks L.A. Confidential and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. After some nice discussions (don't mind some minor audio issues), Jandy finally takes a stab at The Tower. Will she breeze through it... or will our Stone sink? (Sorry, I had to.)

That being said, enjoy! Thanks goes out to Kevin MacLeod's Incompetech website for great, royalty-free music. And thanks to Google for helping me find a website that will give me free video game audio samples.

  1. Good show guys! I do like L.A Confidential a lot but to be honest it took me two viewings to really appreciate it. I still haven't seen Kiss Kiss but its high on my to see list mostly thanks to Nick plugging it whenever.

Over to this weeks podcasting highlight the Tower.

Jandy: Awesome work on it, especially on the 20 questions I struggled equally with John Favreau but as you guys brought up, my signature question on acting directors tend to be quite helpful.

When talking tower strategies I've actually compiled a Demented Tower Walkthrough guide that can be found on: http://www.joelburman.com/2012/01/heisting-the-demented-tower/

    Enjoy!

  2. So who kept rubbing the mic against their body?

Anyway, I've always wanted to see "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" cause it looked like a lot of fun and now I really want to see it.

And Jandy sounds super cute. What's up, girl?

  3. Just rewatched KKBB for RI's Robert Downey, Jr. episode a couple months back. Still love it, but still have no idea how they get from Point A to Point B in the investigation, but it doesn't really matter either because the humor and relationship are enough to gloss over that part for me.

Still haven't seen LA Confidential, but I will eventually, if for nothing else to eventually see every Best Picture nominee, something I only work on in my minimal spare time.

    Great episode!

  4. Joel - Jon Favreau is so far down my mental list of directors that I'm not surprised it took me that long to get there. Aside from the OTHER comic book movie directors last year, I was mentally stuck on people like Rian Johnson and Duncan Jones who haven't made enough movies yet to satisfy that answer. It was almost pure inspiration when I did guess him. Same thing with the Tell, Don't Show game - pure, sudden, inspiration. :)

Jason - KKBB is a lot of fun. Definitely worth watching, even if my comments were rather measured in regard to it.

Rachel - The quest to see all the Best Picture nominees? That could take forEVER. Are you planning to do that right the way back to 1928?

  5. Yeah, it's pretty much a very recent entry on the life-long bucket list. I'm going from present back and only have a few from the naughties left. I may never make it, but that's okay. I at least want to get all the way back through the 70s watched.

  6. I really enjoyed the discussion of LA Confidential. It's one of my favorites, and the conversation made me want to check it out again.

It's interesting that the book of LA Confidential is the third in a four-book series that's loosely connected with the same villain (identical to the movie) pulling the strings each time. I highly recommend it. LA Confidential is the most cinematic of the books, but it's also the most complicated. The movie is actually a really simplified version of the book, but that's what's great about it. The screenplay is one of the best examples of adapting an epic book into a tight movie. I know it's a fairly long film, but it does a wonderful job condensing it.

Great job, Jandy! It was a fun show. I haven't seen KKBB yet, but it's on the list.
