The Demented Podcast #17 - Fletch Vs. Dalton.

We're back with another returning guest. But between last time and this time, he has a whole new website. It was once Dylan of Blog Cabins, but is now Dylan of Man, I Love Films. And today he's on to talk with me about two movies: Fletch and Inside Man. We do a little Versus action and then... right on into The Tower.

As usual, it's No Guts No Glory for Dylan as he tries for the top spot... but he might be going in a little too over-confident. How will that affect his game? Listen and find out!

That being said, enjoy! Thanks goes out to Kevin MacLeod's Incompetech website for great, royalty-free music. And thanks to Google for helping me find a website that will give me free video game audio samples.

Short Review: Fletch.

Premise: Irwin "Fletch" Fletcher is an investigative reporter who stumbles across a much bigger story than expected when a rich man asks Fletch to kill him.

Starring: Chevy Chase, Tim Matheson, George Wendt, and Geena Davis.

My Reaction: I was worried during the first 3-4 minutes after the opening credits, as it came off as incredibly bad acting... but then it got better. The script is fun and witty. I imagine it takes many viewings to really get everything, as the character of Fletch is so fast with his wit that it's hard to keep up sometimes. The movie is genuinely funny and entertaining. I also enjoyed the music, as it was straight 80s. But it fit. It didn't feel dated to me or anything. The story, at least upon initial viewing, is slightly convoluted with all the intricacies of the crime. It took me a few minutes to really figure out how everything was linked together. Though the ending does well enough explaining it. Not too much to say about it. I didn't care too much for the voice-over, though it kinda pays off with the last line. But it's a fun little film, and I'd like to see it again purely for Fletch's quick wit and all the random one-liners. As a side-note, Chevy Chase reminded me heavily of Tim Blake Nelson during the airplane mechanic scene. I think that's all I have to say.

A Keanu 'Whoa'

(P.S. I had a really hard time choosing between this rating and 'McLovin'. I decided to go with this one because I did think it was awesome).

DVDs Or Death!

There's a lot out this week... so you better follow the code of... DVDs Or Death!

Prom Night.

Brief Synopsis: Slasher Flick Based At A Prom.

Comments: If I wanted to pay to see this, I would have seen it in theater... but I didn't, so I'm not.

Viewing Option: T.V. or Skip.

Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best Of Both Worlds Concert 3-D.

Brief Synopsis: Um... I Think The Title Couldn't Be More Specific If It Were Snakes On A Plane.

Comments: No thanks.

Viewing Option: Skip.

Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day.

Brief Synopsis: Clumsy Woman Out Of Work Becomes Glamour Queen's Nanny.

Comments: It seems at least somewhat enjoyable.

Viewing Option: Rent or T.V.

Recount.

Brief Synopsis: Movie Version Of Florida's Screw-Up In 2000 Presidential Election.

Comments: It got a lot of acclaim, from what I heard, but I really don't care to re-live the moment Bush cheated himself into office.

Viewing Option: Skip.

Street Kings.

Brief Synopsis: Keanu Reeves Is A Crooked Cop... And Other Stuff Happens, Too.

Comments: Most reviews for this were mixed, but I'm sure I'll check it out at some point anyway.

Viewing Option: Rent or T.V.

The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior.

Brief Synopsis: Prequel To The Scorpion King... Which Was, In Itself, A Prequel.

Comments: And on that note... did there really need to be a Scorpion King 1?

Viewing Option: Skip.

Nixon.

Brief Synopsis: Well... It's About Richard Nixon.

Comments: Again... it's about Richard Nixon. See 'Recount'.

Viewing Option: Skip.

The Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles - Season One.

Brief Synopsis: Season One Of T.V. Show That Occurs After Terminator 2.

Comments: I loved the season and can't wait for season 2 to begin. However, I rarely buy television shows on DVD, and only do so when I'm head-over-heals for whatever it is, and I just need it.

Viewing Option: T.V. or Skip.

The Fletch Collection.

Brief Synopsis: Both Fletch Movies... One Price!

Comments: Okay, so I'm only putting this here because of my homeboy Fletch over at Blog Cabins. I've never seen either Fletch movie (though I have heard of them, even prior to frequenting the Cabins). I'll check them out at some point, I'm sure.

Viewing Option: Rent or T.V.
