The Demented Podcast #20 - Battle Royale 2.

Here it is, ladies and gentlemen. It's episode 20, so you know what that means! It's time for the second Battle Royale of The Tower. The Top 5 scorers from the previous 9 episodes are going head-to-head. And here they are:

1. Kai (142)
2. Jason (126)
3. Dylan (125)
4. Jess (123)
5. Rachel (114)
----------------------
(And The Rest)
6. Nick (104)
7. Simon (92)
8. Sebastian (84)
9. Nolahn (INCOMPLETE)
10. Keith (INCOMPLETE)

Does Jess make it past the first round this time? Does Jason flub at 20 Questions as he fears? Do Dylan and Kai face off, man to man? Is Rachel's middle name really "Default"? And how much does karma actually affect how this game works? Find answers to these and more (...maybe...) by listening in!

You can listen to this episode on the player below or by subscribing through iTunes.

That being said, enjoy! Thanks goes out to Kevin MacLeod's Incompetech website for great, royalty-free music. And thanks to Google for helping me find a website that will give me free video game audio samples.

The Demented Podcast #15 - The Zed Word Vs. The Greater Good (Live!).

Not only is this episode a week late, but it's also one of the shortest to date--for that, I apologize. However, the reasoning behind that (at least the lateness) was due to the fact... it was recorded live and in person! That's right, returning guest Rachel Thuro joined me (and her husband sitting off a ways, staring at us awkwardly the majority of the time) to discuss and compare the first two films in Edgar Wright's Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy: Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.

After a nice discussion, we have our Versus. Who would win in a fight between the zombies and the village from Fuzz? It's really no contest. But you know what is? The Demented Tower! Rachel climbs it, and she has a lot to live up to as not only the highest scorer the previous season, but also as the current Battle Royale champion! And with her face-to-face with me, I can assure you she couldn't cheat. (As if she would do such a thing!)

Current Tower Leaderboard
1) Jason - 126 Points
2) Jess - 123 Points
3) Nick - 104 Points
4) Simon - 92 Points
Nolahn - Incomplete

Current Battle Royale Champion
Rachel Thuro - 171 Points

Podcast: Reel Insight #26: Ben Foster.

Among the thousand things I did this past weekend, one of them was guesting on the Reel Insight podcast for the second time. As promised last time, I "forced" them to focus on Ben Foster this time around.

Let's just say I got a comment like "We might not let you guest ever again." (Jokingly, of course... I think.)

For some reason, they (particularly Jess) were not thrilled with this week's films. I had to defend my love for the guy while I sat around hearing about how suffering was involved and the plagues came and killed their first born sons (OK, maybe not)... though there's apparently some shared love for Justin Timberlake. It was quite a sad affair.

And that's after we finally got recording. This episode was plagued with so many problems. It took us over half an hour just to get going due to technical difficulties. Then near the very end, my internet crapped out. Then Podomatic wouldn't recognize the format for Rachel to post it up. And it was just one thing after another. But it's finally up and available... so check it out. And support me on my quest to proclaim Ben Foster's awesomeness to the world!

The Demented Podcast #2 - Reel Dementia.

For the second episode of The Demented Podcast, I'm joined by Rachel of Rachel's Reel Reviews. She introduces herself, and then I give some listener feedback. From this, I segue into "The Challenge," which is much shorter this time around, thanks to suggestions from listeners.

Then we move into our main discussion: movie trailers. We discuss how they've evolved from more "tell"-based trailers that give you tone but no story to "show"-based trailers that give you story but can confuse tone. We also discuss everything from teaser trailers to Red-Band trailers, as well as re-cuts, mash-ups, and parody trailers. I actually had to cut a decent amount from the end of the conversation, as Rachel and I digressed into ramblings about Harry Potter.

And then, of course, we wrap up the show with The Demented Tower. Jess struggled with the lemur's game last episode... will Rachel find an adversary with the lemur, as well--or will she even make it past the old man? Listen to find out!

Current Leaderboard:
1. Jess - 95 Points

As usual, I had to cut a decent amount from this last segment, such as long pauses. However, this time, I screwed up just speaking so many times. I had to re-explain rules and restate things, such as constantly saying "points" instead of "stamina." Anyway, you can listen in the player below or you can find us under iTunes. And please, leave comments or email in!

Podcast: The Demented Encyclopedia #16 - Awesome Equals Christopher Nolan In This One.

I know I've already put one thing up today (check out the season 3 review of Avatar: The Last Airbender, if you would!). But I finally got done editing this awesome edition of The Demented Encyclopedia (took a little longer than usual...). So I figured I should put this up, as well.

---------------------------

For the second week in a row, Travis was unable to join us. Instead, Rachel has returned for another episode in his stead. This week, we discuss the career of one Christopher Nolan due to the recent release of Inception. If you notice something out of place on this episode, it's not your computer... We started the show with a brief plug before moving in to Nolan's body of work in chronological order. After a brief D-Bag, we went into Film vs. Film, or in this case, Scene vs. Scene. And finally, we wrapped it all up with our Mono-Dialogues of the Week. Now, that's how we recorded it... that's not to say that's how it ended up...

Thanks goes out to Kevin MacLeod's Imcompetech Website for the music. As always, you can use the player above to listen to the podcast, or you can search iTunes, where we are also available for download. The earlier episodes are being removed from the player for space, but you can still always download them on iTunes. Also, please become a Fan on Facebook... then you can give us your input for the podcast and will probably end up on the show during the D-Bag segment, as well as vote for which film in Film vs. Film won for the week. But as for now... enjoy!

Podcast: The Demented Encyclopedia #15 - The One Where Travis Has A Sex Change (Or Not).

I know we've said it many times before, but this is actually a very special episode. For the first time, Travis is absent from the podcast; and, for the first time, we have a returning guest--Rachel from Rachel's Reel Reviews.

In this fun little episode, Rachel and I discuss the Twilight "Saga" (books and movies), going character by character. But first, Rachel plugs her own podcast, Reel Insight, which she co-hosts with Jess from Insight into Entertainment (Personal Note: It's a great podcast. Definitely check it out... after this one, of course).

After the main discussion and a bit of D-Bag, Rachel and I lie through our teeth to give you a compelling Film vs. Film where we battle two of the best Harry Potter films (for our actual thoughts, stay tuned after the closing theme).

And then we wrap things up with our Mono-Dialogues of the Week (and in my case, we do mean "mono"(tone)).

Podcast: The Demented Encyclopedia #3 - The One With A Guest Host (Rachel).

For this episode, our shortest yet (they just keep getting shorter and shorter!), we're joined by our very first guest host, Rachel from Rachel's Reel Reviews. After plugging her blog and a monthly event that correlates with the main topic, we get into said topic--a discussion on Mystery Science Theater 3000 and RiffTrax.

Main Topic: MST3K and RiffTrax (33 Minutes)

The topic spans from why it's well liked, how it did so well, favorite episodes, and even a bit of Mike vs. Joel. And then, after a brief D-Bag segment, we move on to the next segment.

Reality Round-Up (15 minutes)

Rachel takes a break as Travis and I begin the reality show discussions. The Survivor talk is brief, as we're both mostly in agreement that Russell is king. And then our Idol talk has turned spit-fire, going from one contestant to the next, giving our thoughts, and wrapping it up with the Power Rankings.

Recommend A... (6 minutes)

Rachel recommends a web comic created by a friend, Bluff in the Pines.

I recommend the rising internet sensation "A Very Potter Musical," the Harry Potter musical. More information can be found at their website: Team Star Kid.

And Travis recommends the new wannabe-superhero film Defendor starring Woody Harrelson.

Monologue of the Week (9 minutes)

We wrap things up with the monologues of the week. And yes, we do force Rachel to do one. I kick things off with a speech from the love-it-or-hate-it Sci-Fi film The Faculty. Travis then moves into more... verbose territory with Pulp Fiction. And then Rachel shows up the both of us with an internal monologue from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

For the music this week, I went back (due to popular demand) to the theme used in the first episode. So thanks goes out to Kevin MacLeod's Imcompetech Website. As always, you can use the player above to listen to the podcast, or you can search iTunes, where we are also available for download. Enjoy!
