R2D2... The One With Scarlett Johansson.

I have about 25 minutes before I have to start getting ready for work, so here's some randomness for the day...

- I hated Woody Allen's Match Point. However, I just heard yesterday that Woody's next movie starring Scarlett Johansson is going to include a hardcore passionate lesbian scene between her and Penelope Cruz. I'm totally there.

- Similarly, there's a movie coming out called The Other Boleyn Girl staring Scarlett and Natalie Portman in the same movie. Totally there.

- Unrelated to movies, but U2 is one of the most overrated bands ever. Bono is an okay dude, but U2 just plain sucks. I can't stand them (and I often get burned at the stake for that opinion).

- I should totally do an article on top 10 overrated movies. That way I can get lambasted (I really just wanted to use the word lambasted).

- Jumper this week! Hooray!

- I was watching Ghostbuster II the other night and I got to thinking... with all these sequels lately where previously fit actors are now old (namely Rocky, Rambo, and Indiana Jones), they should totally do a Ghostbusters 3, where all the guys meet up again after 20 years of going their separate ways. Maybe they can have a death match between the Stay Puft Marshmellow Man and the Statue of Liberty.

-It seems American Gangster and Michael Clayton are coming to DVD right before the Oscars... I might be able to do a quick rental and check them out right before the ceremony. Then I'd really be caught up (minus, say, Atonement).

- I watched The Nanny Diaries last night... it wasn't too bad, though Scarlett Johansson helped... a lot.

- Can you tell I like Scarlett Johansson? I'm actually DVRing (or about to) The Girl with the Pearl Earring, because it's one of the only SJ movies I have yet to see.

- Really, I'll just leave it at that.

  1. I'm no big fan of U2, but to say they "just plain suck" is way off base. If you say they're not your cup of tea, I can buy that, but they're still superior (or at least, were) to most bands out there.

I didn't hate Match Point, but I didn't love it, either. It was a pretty good story with a good twist, but (shoot me) Scarlett acted for shit in it. She seems capable of being a decent actress every now and then, but for the most part, she'll just be seen as eye candy.

Unless I hear there's nudity, I could care less about the Boleyn Girl movie. It looks boring as shit. (To the ladies out there - again, shoot me.)

I'm a "wait-and-see" on Jumper. Certainly don't think it looks all that great, but (minus Mr./Mrs. Smith) Liman has almost a free pass in my book.

  2. Fletch: Fair enough. U2 is not my cup of tea... but I also can't see how anybody else can like them, either. Bono's singing is irritating, the lyrics are, for the most part, silly in disguise of being intelligent or clever (which aggravates me), and the guitar irks me (though sometimes it's decent).

Match Point was boring up until the very very end, which still dragged on way too long. I agree it wasn't Scarlett's best movie, too. But she's still nice to look at.

I seriously doubt Boleyn will have nudity (at least from Portman or SJ)... but it's an eye-candy movie for me. Though I agree it'll probably be boring.

Are you saying you liked or disliked Mr./Mrs. Smith and like/dislike Liman? I couldn't tell from your comment.

  3. I'm a Liman fan. He's made three great films in Go, Swingers and the first Bourne, with only the Smiths as a downer.

As far as U2 goes, their early stuff is easily their best. Aside from the political aspect, they really haven't been all that relevant in a decade (unless you count "Beautiful Day," which I don't).

  4. Oh, Go and the first Bourne were cool. Burn me, but I haven't seen Swingers. Though I enjoyed Smith >.< .

For U2... Beautiful Day was actually the song that started my strong dislike for the band. It was like... the only song ever played on the radio back in the day, and I couldn't stand it after the first time.
