So I called at least 50% of them, depending on how you look at it. I have to say, a lot of these came out of nowhere for me. I'm still upset that Jesse James didn't win Cinematography. Not even Atonement won it. But There Will Be Blood? Somebody was bribed. I mean, it's a great movie... but the previous two were still much better in the cinematography category.
Also, for those of you who read my Art Direction segment for the LAMB Devours the Oscars... I think it was funny they had a section devoted to explaining what the hell Art Direction actually was... it was like they read my article... and they STILL didn't really explain it very well.
I've gotta say, the oscars this year really annoyed me. There were a lot of films that really deserved to win and didn't.
ReplyDeleteOkay, it was obvious that either "No Country" or "There Will Be Blood" would nab best film, and I'd accepted that Juno wasn't what the academy looks for, but Ellen Page not winning Best Actress?! The girl is amazing in that film.
I agree that Atonement or Jesse James should've got best cinematography. And Cassie Affleck deserved "Best Supporting" so much more that Mr Bardem. I liked his performance, but it didn't have the same range as Cassie's.
I was slightly saddened by Enchanted not winning best song, but after listening to the winner, I'm quite happy for them to have taken it.
And the Golden Compass just can't compete with both Transformers or Pirates in terms of special effects.
The four I feel deserved their wins are DD Lewis, Diablo Cody, Atonement and Ratatoille.
Let us hope next year is better.
