The Demented Podcast #37 - Fairy Tales.

Yeah, I know. Not a very creative title... but I couldn't find anything else particularly thematic from the episode to put in there. Anyway, we're joined this episode by Rachel Thuro. We state in the episode that she is of Rachel's Reel Reviews; however, this was recorded immediately before her announcement, and she is now of the site Reel Insight. She's here to talk with us about fairy tale flicks Ladyhawke and MirrorMask.

Then... this former Battle Royale winner and former BR runner-up takes on The Tower yet again. Will this Tower Veteran score the highest of the season... or will she fumble early? Listen to find out!

Due to Podomatic bandwidth issues, I will no longer be placing the podcast player on the site. But you can easily listen and subscribe through iTunes!

That being said, enjoy! Thanks goes out to Kevin MacLeod's Incompetech website for great, royalty-free music. And thanks to Google for helping  me find a website that will give me free video game audio samples.

  1. I was two episodes behind so I didn't get to comment on the Stevee episode so here goes:
Hard Candy is fucking crazy, dude! I watched that movie with the future wife sometime last year and we were just stunned while watching it. I got into a fight with a friend over the "castration" scene cause think thought it really happened but I kept telling her it didn't, she just used rubber bands and a video tape of a castration. Oh well. Stevee did awesome on The Tower.

Now onto Rachel's episode. You guys are making want to watch "Ladyhawke". I think I saw part of it when I was a kid, I just remember the whole "turns into an animal" thing and that's about it. And as you guys probably know, I LOVE cheesy music so I can't wait to hear that.

Fuck you Steve, I love Ferris Bueller!

I've never heard of "Mirror Mask" so no comment on that.

Holy fuck Rachel killed it on The Tower! I feel sorry for the next player.

Speaking of, hi next player! You so sexy!

  2. I really lucked out with the Patterns round. I had *just* watched the beginning of Star Trek the week before, so the birth was fresh on my mind. Fate was smiling and I saved 50 "juggling balls" for it.

    Best of luck, Jason!

  3. When you read my comment Nick, it should say "I got into a fight with a friend over the "castration" scene cause she thought it really happened..."

  4. You know how, every time you listen to a film podcast game, it seems like someone mentions the whole "I'll bet people are screaming the answer in their cars right now!" thing?

Yeah. This time it was actually totally true. First, I should say kudos to Rachel for her almost-made-up-for-it performance in the patterns game, which was pretty fantastic. But that 20 questions game...

Mostly, I was less screaming at Rachel than I was Nick, who I'm STILL bitter with for his shitty, shitty "clue" given to me during the last Battle Royale. I got Rachel's answer on the clue alone! Instead, I get some obscure reference to a throwaway line in a movie that came out two decades before Black Swan was even released! **breathes deeply** Ok, I'm gonna have to let that go. Eventually.

And then there's the part where she should have gotten her movie on the clue as well, which was of course frustrating in its own right. But, like I said, pretty much made up for.

Oh, and you guys made me want to watch Ladyhawke, too, to hear its awful music if nothing else. :D

  5. I think I actually own Ladyhawke somewhere, from way back when Warner used to do those snap cases. I might have to pull it out one of these days. I don't remember that much of it, but I do remember liking it a lot. And I liked Mirrormask a whole lot, too. Good choices this week, guys!

I expected Rachel to make the rest of us look like amateurs, but DAMN. :p I did guess the director based on just the clue, but I doubt it would've come to me on the spot. That said, INCREDIBLE on the patterns one - those tend to be hard for me to get.
