Podcast: The Demented Podcast #1 - Doorknob Entertainment.

UPDATE: I finally got notice from iTunes that the podcast has been accepted. About freakin' time. So yeah, now you can download from iTunes.

For the first episode of The Demented Podcast, I have Jess from Insight into Entertainment. She introduces herself, and then we get into our very first "The Challenge." This episode, we take on a scene from the Kiera Knightley version of "Pride and Prejudice." But with a twist...

From there, we get into our main discussion: Book-to-Film adaptations. Of course we cover the obvious (Twilight and Harry Potter), but we even get into a bit of Bill Shakespeare, Stephen King, and more!

Finally, we wrap up the show with my new game, The Demented Tower. Will Jess make it all the way to the top? Or will she be violently assaulted by a magical floating lemur? Listen to find out!

And if you're wondering... yes, I had to edit out a lot of long pauses for think-time during the game (so sometimes, her answers--or even my responses--weren't as fast as they appear). You can listen to the episode below, and it will be available through iTunes sometime within the next 24 hours.

That being said, enjoy! Thanks goes out to Kevin MacLeod's Incompetech website for great, royalty-free music. And thanks to Google for helping me find a website that will give me free video game audio samples.

  1. Great first episode Nick. Definitely looking forward to more of these.

I know you mentioned True Blood in your books vs. movies, one thing I'm trying to champion is people reading George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series (the 4 that are out right now) before the TV series A Game of Thrones kicks in. On some level reading the first book will probably take a lot out of the first series (since it relies a lot on setting up that world of deceit and misdirection and playing against Fantasy archetypes). I know it's not movie related but I thought I'd throw that out there anywho :S.

I saw the first Twilight movie. Read about 50 pages of the first Twilight book. That was as far as I cared to endeavor in either medium.

Eragon was a movie I so desperately wanted to walk out of... unfortunately I was there with friends and it would have been awkward.

  2. is there a link for the itunes download yet? I cant seem to find it through search.

  3. Kano: You can go to the podomatic page and click the "subscribe to itunes" link/button. I don't know why it isn't listing on iTunes itself, but most others have gotten it this way.

  4. As I just updated, it's finally been accepted to iTunes. So y'all can find it there now (hopefully).

  5. It still doesn't work when I seach "the demented podcast" but found it no problem when I searched "doorknob entertainment". Loved the graphic btw.

  6. Jess: I just did a search for The Demented Podcast and found it easy. It was the first choice.

  7. Excellent episode good sir. Good chemistry with the guest, easy conversational style, and a game.

Can't say I remember Jane Austin writing the phrase "You bitch" though. Awesome!!

Lookin forward to listening to episode two and beyond!

    PS... Other awesome book adaptations:

    "High Fidelity"
    "Never Let Me Go"
    "Children of Men"
    "Fight Club"
    "The Road"
    "To Kill a Mockingbird"
    "No Country for Old Men"

  8. Thanks, Hatter! Glad you like it. The second episode is just brilliant, as well.

  9. Good to know - I'll check it out this afternoon. PS - add me to your waiting list of people who wanna do a turn in the guest chair.
