The Demented Podcast #24 - We Aim To Misbehave.

UPDATE: Sorry for the long publishing wait. It only took 10 hours for Podomatic to consider it as uploaded...

-----------------

This is probably one of our favorite episodes as we're joined by Dan Heaton of Public Transportation Snob to discuss TV-To-Film Adaptations. First we take on a good translation with Serenity... but, of course, we have to tackle a bad one, as well. And boy do we really go all out... on The Last Airbender. It's a conversation that goes on for quite a while, but we have a ton to say (it's a great show ruined by a terrible film!). And, yes... don't worry for all of you keeping tabs out there. We do talk about penis again.

But then we move on in to The Tower, and Dan plays what will be one heck of a memorable game. But will it be for positive or negative reasons? Does he slip up at the end? Or does he even make it that far? Listen to find out!

That being said, enjoy! Thanks goes out to Kevin MacLeod's Incompetech website for great, royalty-free music. And thanks to Google for helping me find a website that will give me free video game audio samples.

  1. Sorry for the lack of comments guys. I have listened in to a couple of the episodes and I like the new format. The add-on with Steve as co-host is also good because it opens up the discussion in a great way since you both are in different age spans.

Over to the last Ep. Damn Dan killed it on the tower and it got me rethinking possible tower strategies since this was the first time the clues really helped some one.

Of the feature discussions I really got curious about seeing the Avatar TV-series version so I need to seek that out. I'm really staying clear of the film version though.

I'm a huge Buffy fan and saw Serenity on opening day in Sweden and was hugely disappointed. However, I do think it has more to do with not having seen Firefly at all.

  2. I think Serenity is when my love affair with Whedon started, since I had never watched Buffy or Angel. I went to see it in the theater without having seen Firefly and absolutely loved the movie, though there were one or two things I didn't really understand (specifically Inara and Book's relationship to the group) but went home and started watching the show so all the puzzle pieces could fall into place immediately. I'm so glad they got the opportunity to gain closure with the film.

As for The Last Airbender...ugh. The only reason you should watch it is if you have all your Christmas gift wrapping to do in the middle of the living room floor and need background noise (which is how I watched it), but a chorus of dying cats would also suffice. Still haven't around to seeing the show yet, but it's on the list.

And a very impressive job by Dan in the Tower. Puts my default high score to absolute shame.

  3. Wait, WHAT?! You'd never seen Firefly before?!

Sorry, just listened to that part in the episode and felt the overwhelming desire to chastise you. Will finish listening now

  4. Ok done now. Great episode as always guys. Congrats to Dan on dominating the tower! I also think I'm going to add The Last Airbender to my DVD queue (the show, not the film, obviously).

  5. Thanks Tom! I think there was some serious luck involved, along with a few good clues. It was a lot of fun, even discussing the Last Airbender.
